New Art Exhibit “Borrowing From Japan” July 2nd – September 10th 2017

Borrowing from Japan is an exhibit of calligraphy and drawings by artist Matthew Wright. This body of work is inspired by the Japanese philosophy and aesthetic wabi sabi. “Wabi sabi is a way of living that focuses on finding beauty within the imperfections of life and accepting peacefully the natural cycle of growth and decay.”  In the West, we are influenced by the Greek ideals of beauty and perfection, but wabi sabi offers a contrasting ideology and in some ways a simpler and more peaceful way of existence.

Borrowing from Japan will be exhibited in the sanctuary at St. Mark’s from July 2, 2017 – September 10, 2017.  An artist’s reception and talk is scheduled for July 21, 2017, from 6-8pm. Refreshments will be served. We look forward to seeing you there!
