Volunteer Opportunities
Are you
looking for an opportunity to volunteer in your community? Here
is a short list of local organizations that St. Mark’s supports
that need and welcome volunteer help.
Bridge
Communities -- helps homeless families by providing
housing and a program focused on the achievement of self-sufficiency.
Volunteer needs: Program Partners, Mentors, Attorneys, Tutors,

Habitat
for Humanity, DuPage -- works in partnership with people
in need to build modest and affordable housing. To build Habitat
houses, individuals, faith communities, and corporate donors
provide the money and materials; volunteers provide some of
the labor. You may join one of several working committees, participate
in one of the financial campaigns, volunteer in the office,
and/or volunteer for building on-site. 630-510-3737, 213 S.

Cathedral
Shelter -- serves the near West side of Chicago. Provides
help in these areas: Homeless Prevention Programs, Senior Services,
Persons with HIV, Crisis Intervention, Christmas Baskets. Volunteer
opportunities: Help a student prepare for the G.E.D. or learn
to read. Tutor someone in computer skills. Stock food in the
emergency pantry. Work in the Second Chance Thrift Shop. Sponsor
a family in the Christmas Basket Program. Make personal care
(grooming) kits for homeless persons. Sponsor a clothing or
toy drive for Second Chance Thrift Shop. Organize a food drive.
Organize an outing or special event for Cressey and Higgins

Glen
Ellyn Food Pantry – Provides food for deserving families
in our area. Your donations of food are accepted all year at
St. Mark's, especially during St. Mark's month each spring.
Food Pantry is located at Grace Lutheran Church, 493 Forest
Ave, Glen Ellyn, 60137 - (630) 469-8668. Volunteers are needed
to staff the pantry on weekdays. St. Mark’s contact is Adrian

Glen
Ellyn Walk-In Ministry -- Helps deserving people with
food vouchers, transportation, and other needs at First United
Methodist Church, 424 Forest Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137. (630)
469-3510. Volunteers are needed to staff the center on weekdays.

P.A.D.S.
– Emergency shelter provided by churches. Dinner, bedding, morning
breakfast, and a bag lunch are provided. Other social services
offered include help with transitional housing, employment readiness
counseling, transitional housing, life skills enrichment, stress
management, art and music therapy. Warming Center on Sunday
afternoons. Volunteers are needed in these areas: Overnight
Shelter Support, Daytime Assistance at Support Center, Employment
Readiness, Computer Instructor / Mentor / Tech, Leading Life
Skill Programs, Artists for Artworks! Program, Office Assistance,
Transitional Housing Support & more (see website for additional

People’s
Resource Center – walk-in resource center which provides
low-income residents basic services including food, clothes,
and housing assistance, as well as social services such as computer
access and training, literacy classes, an art studio, and a
jobs program. Volunteer opportunities include: Food Market,
Clothes Connection, Adult and Family Literacy, Computer Training
and Computer Access, PRC Office & more (see website for

St.
Gregory Episcopal School -- provides affordable, faith-based
education to at-risk boys, primarily in the North Lawndale area
of Chicago, preparing them for success in competitive high schools.
Volunteer opportunities include tutoring (primary grades), tutoring
(upper grades for test taking and interviewing skills to get
into selective high schools), help with coordinating the high
school placements & securing of scholarships, help coordinate
Visiting Mentor program, help with Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
