Missions - Todd and Patsy McGregor
What is a "mission"? Patsy and Todd explained that the word 'mission' is from the Greek 'apostolia' which means "to send." Although many of us 'wait for a call', we are all called to be missionaries.
There are three key points to remember when considering mission work.
1) The mission should be God's mission, not the "Church's mission" or your mission. It's not about what we think or about our preferences and intentions. It is about what God wants. In the past He has chosen some fairly unlikely representatives: Moses, David, Jonah. Would any of these individuals pass a vestry screening committee today?
2) The mission is also God's mandate. Matthew 28: 18 - 20 uses five verbs that tell us what we are to do: Go, Make, Baptising, Teaching, and Obey. The McGregors believe those of us who live with abundance have a responsibility to share it with the rest of the world. Our abundance is not just economic, it is spiritual.
3) The purpose of the mission, we are told, is to expand God's kingdom.
The McGregors encourage us all to "Come and see".
