A LETTER TO OUR SMP FAMILIES DURING SOCIAL DISTANCING:

Hello SMP Families!

Hoping this note finds everyone settling into a temporary routine at home.  We know this is a challenging time for everyone and miss our SMP family!

Follow us on Facebook: @stmarkspreschoolglenellyn.  Beginning now through spring break, we will post ideas and explorations as well as links to sites with cool activities for children.  Please feel free to comment on our posts with photos of your child/children engaged in those activities or just saying “hi” to their preschool friends.

We are all experiencing some level of uncertainty due to this unexpected change in our routines, and so are our children.  However, they may not be able to communicate their concerns and not understanding the changes to their regular schedule can result in behavior challenges for you.  They may need a daily routine, more snuggle time than usual, some one-on-one play time, or any time to feel connected and safe with you. Children are watching and learning about how to respond to stress and anxiety.  Young children will remember how they and their families felt during this time of isolation more than anything specific about the virus. This can be a very positive time for them where they remember special moments with their family.

The following is a simple explanation you can share with your children when they ask about the Coronavirus:

There is a germ that is making some people really sick.  Not kids so much, but we all have to do what we can to protect our friends and neighbors.  That’s why we need to stay home right now, it’s a way we can show kindness to everyone. But, we can do fun things at home like games, pretend, and play in our yard.  I am happy to have this special time at home with you.

We hope to see you all back at the preschool very soon!

All our best,

Kristine and the SMP Staff

The St. Mark’s Preschool philosophy is influenced by the Reggio Emilia project approach to learning. The emergent curriculum builds upon the interests, passions and play of children while also encompassing developmentally appropriate concepts and skills for all learning domains. Learning is facilitated through exploration and project work. Children are celebrated as individuals capable of deep, creative thinking. Their learning is a personal journey supported through a partnership between the child, his/her parents and teachers.

Our school is a place where children can develop a love for learning and an appreciation for the world around them. In the Episcopal tradition, we welcome and embrace children of all faiths and socio-economic backgrounds. St. Mark’s Preschool is a supportive community that integrates the arts, academics and health with social and emotional learning.

St. Mark’s Preschool is open to children ages 3 to 5. Children must be 3 years of age by September 1 and bathroom-independent. The school year runs from the Tuesday after Labor Day to the Thursday before Memorial Day and closely follows the School District 41 calendar throughout the school year.
