Friday Programs – Studio Arts & STEAM

Studio Arts

The St. Mark’s Preschool Studio Arts Program is a year-long class that focuses on the visual and performing arts. The curriculum focuses on simple and abstract art concepts and learns about a famous artist. Some examples of materials that will be explored include: wire sculpture, ceramics, acrylic paints, and photography. In years past we have explored the work of Mondrian, Picasso, Chihuly, Renior, Kandinsky and Warhol. Guest speakers will serve as provocations for the curriculum to inspire and share their talents with the students. Parents are invited to view studio work at regular gallery expositions conducted throughout the school year. This program offers an ideal small class size with 2 teachers.

STEAM Program

The STEAM Program is a year-long class that incorporates Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics to guide student inquiry, dialogue, and creative thinking. The end results are students who take thoughtful risks. participate in experiential learning, develop problem-solving skills, value collaboration, and work through the creative process. Examples of topics covered in STEAM are force and motion, construction, coding, cooking and horticulture.
